Rabokki is the perfect weeknight dinner or no fuss homemade lunch - ready in just 20 minutes! The epic combination of chewy rice cakes and ramen noodles is made even better with the fiery gochujang sauce. Like all good homemade recipes, you can tweak the spice levels to make it hotter or calm it down.

Rabokki (라볶이) is a combination of tteokbokki/ddeokbokki/dubokki (떡볶이) and ramyeon (라면), or instant ramen noodles. Tteokbokki is a simple dish that consists of tubular rice cakes, fish cake, and a spicy red sauce. It's commonly found on street carts or in snack shops (bunsikijips) that are frequented by teenagers for an after-school snack.

Ra-bokki consists of spicy stir-fried rice cakes swimming in gochujang with boiled eggs and scallions, smashed together with a package of sautéed hot-dog-cheesy-ramyeon. It's a treat that, once you've had it, you'll become seriously obsessive over. And believe me, I have! It's the perfect marriage of starch on starch.

Rabokki is a thrifty concept similar to Chapaguri (a portmanteau for Chapaghetti and Neoguri instant ramyun ), featured in Bong Joon Ho's 2019 psychological thriller Parasite. Instead of mixing two types of noodles, rabokki is the addition of ramyun into tteokbokki, chewy Korean rice cakes stir-fried in a spicy-sweet gochujang sauce.

Tteokbokki is chewy rice cakes cooked in a red, spicy broth. It's a popular Korean street food. When I was a student coming home from school it was hard to resist the spicy rice cakes sold by vendors on the street! They would have big vats of tteokbokkie and just keep stirring and stirring.

This is truly one of my favorite recipes growing up. Actually, it's my FIRST ever recipe I made when I was 12-13 years old. I used to make this for my sister.

Marinate mushrooms with 1 tsp of sesame oil, 1 tsp of soy sauce, and a pinch of salt. Make sauce in advance by mixing together 1 tbsp gochugaru, 2 tbsp gochujang, 1 tbsp soy sauce, and 1 tbsp maple syrup. Add 1 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil over medium high heat in a non-stickpan. Add onions and mushrooms and cook until they start to brown.

Instructions. Pour the 3 cups (750 ml) of water into a pot and add the dried varech and anchovies. Boil over medium heat and uncovered for 10 minutes. Using a skimmer, remove and throw the Varech and continue to boil for an additional 10 minutes. Using a skimmer, remove the anchovies from the broth.

How to Make Ramen Tteokbokki. Place water, kombu, and dried shiitake mushrooms in a large saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and let simmer for 10 minutes. In the meantime, prepare the carrot, onion, green cabbage, and scallions. Discard kombu and dried mushrooms from the pot and add the gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce.

Chop the green onions into long strips. Thinly slice some green onion for garnish. 2. In a wok (or pan), add 1.5 cups (360ml) water, Korean chili paste, sugar, and ramyun powder. Stir to combine. Place it over medium-high heat. 3. Once it starts to boil, add the dried vegetables, ramyun noodles, and green onions.
